About Us
Luke and Heidi Woodhead founded Woodhead Horn Repair in 2009 to provide a professional, craftsman-led repair service for the horn playing community. We are based in the UK but offer a worldwide service.
The knowledge and craftsmanship amassed by Luke during the past nine years at Paxman has culminated in the launch of Woodhead Horn Repair. As one of the country’s leading brass repairers Luke will now be able to bring the highest level of skill, service and professionalism to his own workshop.
The company operates from two workshops.
- On Wednesday and Friday we operate a workshop within “Dots Music”, Camden. Dot is a keen horn player and has been running the business since 1998, selling sheet music and general music accessories.
- Instruments for Woodhead Horn Repair can be dropped off or collected from “Dots Music” on any day that the shop is open.
- On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings we work from our home address in Ampthill, Bedfordshire (10 mins from M1, J13 Milton Keynes or J12 Toddington) where we have a large workshop with comprehensive facilities. Please call to arrange an appointment.
Luke Woodhead studied as a horn player at the Birmingham Conservatoire. After graduating in July 2000 he started to work at Paxman Ltd as a repairer. From 2004 – 2009 Luke managed Paxman’s London workshop as well as training repairers/horn builders and latterly taking on the role of Production Co-ordinator for the company.
In 2007 Luke was made an honorary member of the Birmingham Conservatoire for outstanding achievement in the musical industry within ten years of graduation.
A committee member for the British Horn Society, Luke is of course a keen horn player.
Heidi Woodhead (née Bowdler) began her studies in Perth, Australia, then came to London, to study horn at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, completing her PDOT in 1997. Since graduating she has worked as a professional horn player in London as well as spending four years working part-time as a repairer for Paxman Musical Instruments Ltd.
